Drissia Chouit participates in UNESCO Global MIL Week 2025 in Cartagena

MEDEA is proud to announce that Drissia Chouit, founding member of MEDEA, was invited by UNESCO to participate in the Opening Session of the Special Day of the UNESCO Media and Information Literacy Alliance (UNESCO MIL Alliance), held as part of Global Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Week 2025.

The event, taking place in Cartagena, Colombia from 22 to 24 October 2025, brought together leading experts, policymakers, researchers, and practitioners to advance the global dialogue on media and information literacy.

Dr. Chouit joined distinguished speakers including Dr. Tawfik Jelassi, UNESCO’s Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information, Ms. Adeline Hulin, and Dr. Yonty Friesem during the Opening Session.

“It is a special honour for me to be invited by UNESCO to take part in this important event,” said Drissia Chouit. “This Special Day represents a unique opportunity to reflect collectively on the renewed vision of the MIL Alliance and to strengthen collaboration among partners committed to advancing media and information literacy worldwide.”

Strengthening the UNESCO MIL Alliance

The Special Day of the UNESCO MIL Alliance marks a key milestone in the organization’s efforts to revitalize and strengthen the Alliance following a year-long series of global consultations. UNESCO used this occasion to present the findings of these consultations and to launch a new Action Plan that will guide the future strategic direction of the Alliance.

The Special Day served as a platform for dialogue, networking, and collaboration among members, fostering exchanges on strategies to advance media and information literacy (MIL) as a foundation for resilience, peace, and sustainable development.

Global Participation and Engagement

UNESCO also issued an open invitation for experts, institutions, and organizations to join or renew their membership in the UNESCO MIL Alliance, which now operates through a newly launched Digital Hub. Membership is open to both individual experts and institutions, reinforcing the Alliance’s mission to promote global cooperation in MIL education, advocacy, and scientific research.
