Joan Barata contributed to the revision of the Code of Journalists of Montenegro, presented in Podgorica by the Media Self-Regulatory Council of Montenegro.
As part of the revision process, Joan addressed the ethical challenges related to the use of artificial intelligence in journalism, highlighting the importance of transparency and responsible practices when AI-generated content may mislead media users. His contribution focused on the need for balanced approaches to AI labelling in media, recognising both the growing use of artificial intelligence by news organisations and the importance of maintaining public trust in journalism.
The revision process brought together representatives of the Media Self-Regulatory Council, media ombudsmen from Dan, Vijesti, and RTCG, as well as the Association of Professional Journalists of Montenegro.
The revised Code reflects current challenges in the media sector and provides updated ethical guidance for journalists in the context of technological developments, and was supported by UNESCO Office in Venice, the European Union in Montenegro, the Council of Europe Programme Office in Podgorica, and the OSCE Mission to Montenegro.
