MEDEA is pleased to announce the publication of a new article by Drissia Chouit, in collaboration with Abdelhamid Nfissi of Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University, Morocco. The paper, titled Enhancing Media and Information Literacy for Peace and Global Understanding Through Scientific Research: Deciphering the Relationship between News Agenda, Political Agenda and Public Opinion, has been published in Anàlisi: Quaderns de Comunicació i Cultura, a scholarly journal published by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
The article explores how media narratives shape public understanding of major political events and argues for a stronger integration of Media and Information Literacy (MIL) in higher education. Using the “War on Terror” as a case study, the authors examine the relationship between the news agenda, political agenda, and public opinion through the lens of Agenda-Setting Theory. The study reveals a strong alignment between political and media agendas during the Iraq War, demonstrating how news organizations frequently adopted government narratives and terminology, contributing to a “top-down” flow of information.
