Webinar: Reassessing the EU Audiovisual Media Services Directive in a Platform-Dominated Environment

July 1 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Organized by CERRE (Centre on Regulation in Europe), this webinar will examine how Europe’s audiovisual media framework can be adapted to a rapidly evolving media ecosystem.

The webinar will address key regulatory and policy issues, including access and prominence of media content, content findability, signal integrity, advertising markets, audience protection, and the balance between national regulatory objectives and the EU internal market framework. It will bring together policymakers, regulators, industry stakeholders, and academic experts for a forward-looking discussion on the future of audiovisual media regulation in Europe.

The event will also feature the presentation of CERRE’s forthcoming issue paper, “Reform of AVMSD: Towards Coherent Rules for EU-wide Platforms that Provide Access to Media Content”, authored by Michèle Ledger and Sally Broughton Micova.

This session offers a timely opportunity to reflect on whether Europe’s current audiovisual governance framework can effectively respond to platform-dominated media distribution and how it might evolve to ensure both regulatory coherence and the protection of public interest objectives.
