Joan Barata to Speak on Disinformation and Freedom of Expression in the Euro-Mediterranean Region

MEDEA is pleased to highlight the upcoming lecture by Joan Barata, expert in freedom of expression and social media regulation, as part of the Aula Casa Mediterráneo conference series. The event, titled “Disinformation and Freedom of Expression in the Euro-Mediterranean Region,” will take place on Monday, 2 February 2026, at Casa Mediterráneo in Alicante.
Barata will address current challenges in regulating online speech, with a focus on disinformation, platform governance, and the evolving role of legal frameworks in safeguarding freedom of expression across the Euro-Mediterranean space. His intervention draws on extensive experience advising international organisations and academic institutions on media law and digital regulation.
The event is organised in collaboration with the Advertising and Public Relations programme at the University of Alicante, the Casa Árabe Arab Studies Programme, and the Aula Mediterrània of IEMed, reflecting a shared commitment to fostering dialogue on pressing regional issues.
MEDEA welcomes this initiative and encourages participation from researchers, students, and professionals engaged in media and regulatory fields.
