IIC Combined Chapter Meeting: Online safety – restricting Social Media Use – issues for parents, users, funders and advertisers

Online safety for children and vulnerable users is moving fast – and some of the most ambitious ideas are coming from Australia, Italy and the UK.
On 15 April, Augusto Preta, MEDEA co-founder, will be joining an International Institute of Communications (IIC) webinar that brings together experts from these three jurisdictions to discuss:
• Australia’s proposed under‑16 social media restrictions and wider online safety agenda
• Emerging EU and UK initiatives to protect minors and other vulnerable users
• How legal, technological and societal responses can work together globally
• The practical challenges of age assurance, privacy, and proportional, risk‑based regulation
This will be a great opportunity for policymakers, regulators, industry, and civil society to compare approaches and explore what “good” looks like for protecting young and vulnerable users online, without losing sight of fundamental rights and innovation.
