Conference: Virtual and Digital Worlds – Real Challenges and Opportunities Digital Day

July 10

Organized by the DIGI-APPS project team at Tilburg Law School, this conference examines how emerging technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), digital platforms, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and blockchain are reshaping the digital public sphere.

The event brings together an interdisciplinary group of academics, activists, and professionals to discuss the implications of these developments for democratic rights, privacy, copyright, public participation, cultural heritage, and mental health, as well as the opportunities they create for more inclusive forms of online engagement.

Within this framework, Adriana Mutu will present a talk titled:
“Article 40 of the Digital Services Act in action: reframing data access to study systemic risks in the European Union.”

Her contribution will focus on how Article 40 of the Digital Services Act can be operationalised to improve data access for independent research on systemic risks in the EU digital ecosystem, with particular attention to platform accountability and evidence-based regulatory oversight.

The conference forms part of the broader DIGI-APPS research project at Tilburg Law School, which investigates how to design legal and policy frameworks capable of ensuring accessible and protected digital public spheres in increasingly complex virtual environments.
