MEDEA joins global partners for two key international webinars on Human Rights and Media Literacy in December 2025

In December 2025, MEDEA played a key role in hosting two significant international webinars focused on Media and Information Literacy (MIL) and Human Rights.

1. International Webinar on Human Rights Day 2025 (26 December)

On 26 December 2025, MEDEA, alongside an esteemed group of international partners, hosted a significant International Webinar in celebration of United Nations Human Rights Day. The event was coordinated by Drissia Chouit, founding member of MEDEA, and served as an important platform for bridging academia and diplomacy to promote a human rights-based Media and Information Literacy (MIL) for all.

The webinar featured notable figures from the world of human rights and diplomacy, including:

  • H.E. Dr. Muhammad Shahid Amin Khan, World Chair & Ambassador at Large at the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC)
  • H.E. Dr. M’Barek Afekouh, Ambassador at Large and Chairman of the Maghreb Arab Union Countries at the International Human Rights Organization (IHRO)
  • Dr. Claudia Wanderley, advocate for indigenous cultures and languages, and academic at UNICAMP University, Brazil

The event was organized by the Research Group on Intercultural Communication, Dialogue and Conflict Resolution, led by Drissia Chouit, in collaboration with the Research Laboratory on Communication, Interculturality, Gender, Arts, Language and Society (LaRCIGALS) at Moulay Ismail University of Meknes. The webinar also received strong support from the following key partners:

  • International Human Rights Organization (IHRO)
  • International Human Rights Commission (IHRC)
  • UNESCO UNITWIN University Network on Media and Information Literacy and Intercultural Dialogue
  • UNESCO MIL Alliance
  • MEDEA (Mediterranean Europe and Africa)

2. International Seminar for World Arabic Language Day 2025 (29 December)
The final seminar of 2025 was held in Arabic to commemorate World Arabic Language Day. This session, titled “Building Partnerships for Strengthening MIL in the Arab World”, featured experts like Dr. Samy Tayie (UNESCO MIL Alliance) and Dr. Zaid Abushama (ICESCO). The event, organized by Moulay Ismail University, focused on strengthening media literacy across the Arab world. It also included speakers from the Arab League, UNESCO, and other regional institutions, contributing to the ongoing dialogue on improving media education in the region.

Both events highlight MEDEA’s ongoing commitment to fostering intercultural dialogue and promoting human rights across the Mediterranean, Europe, and Africa.
