SUMMARY:Seminar: The Invisible Hand of Censorship – Indirect Restrictions to Freedom of Expression Across Legal Systems
DESCRIPTION:Organized by the Center for Studies on Freedom of Expression (CELE) and the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University (KFAI)\, this online seminar will take place on Tuesday\, 16 June 2026 at 10:00 hs. \nThe discussion will examine how freedom of expression is increasingly affected not only by direct legal prohibitions\, but also by a wide range of indirect restrictions that operate through ordinary regulatory\, economic\, and technical mechanisms. A central focus of the discussion will be the gaps in current legal frameworks and the implications for developing a more coherent and genuinely global standard for freedom of expression in an increasingly platform-mediated information environment. \nThe event will bring together leading experts and scholars in the field\, including Agustina Del Campo (CELE)\, Jennifer Jones (KFAI)\, Joan Barata\, and Admire Mare (University of Johannesburg). Coordination will be provided by Matías González Mama\, Senior Coordinator for Latin America and CELE researcher.

SUMMARY:TILTing Perspectives 2026 Between Values and Innovation: Tech Governance in a Multicentric World
DESCRIPTION:17–19 June 2026 | Tilburg\, Netherlands \nThe TILTing Perspectives 2026 conference will take place in Tilburg from 17 to 19 June 2026\, bringing together scholars and experts in law\, technology\, and digital governance to examine how technology is governed in an increasingly fragmented global order. \nThe conference will address key tensions between innovation\, sovereignty\, and values in digital governance\, asking how regulatory frameworks can remain effective when the technological architecture of the digital world is shaped across multiple jurisdictions and competing governance regimes. \nStructured around a Grand Track and several specialised thematic tracks\, the event continues the long-standing TILTing tradition of interdisciplinary exchange on issues including AI governance\, platform regulation\, data protection\, digital sovereignty\, competition law\, cybersecurity\, and digital rights. \nWithin this framework\, Adriana Mutu will participate as a speaker\, contributing to discussions on technology governance and regulatory accountability in the context of EU digital regulation\, including instruments such as the Digital Services Act (DSA) and broader platform governance frameworks. \nThe conference will also feature keynote addresses from leading international scholars\, including Prof. Anu Bradford (Columbia Law School)\, Prof. Gloria González Fuster (Vrije Universiteit Brussel)\, Prof. Ben Farrand (Newcastle Law School)\, and Prof. Michael Veale (University College London). \nTILTing 2026 provides a high-level forum for rethinking how law and policy can respond to the evolving challenges of digital governance in a multicentric world. \nhttps://www.tilburguniversity.edu/about/schools/law/departments/tilt/tilting-perspectives
